Former K&E Attorney Forms Patent Litigation Boutique
On January 1, 2015, former Kirkland & Ellis attorney, Cory Spence, announced the launch of a new patent litigation boutique, Spence PC. SpencePC will specialize in complex, contentious proceedings, including patent, trade secret, unfair competition, and other intellectual property disputes. “We are trial attorneys first, but we also have the technical expertise necessary to favorably resolve a wide range of litigation, arbitration, mediation, and other contentious administrative proceedings,” explained Mr. Spence.
Mr. Spence further explained that the new firm will offer a unique value proposition:
“Rather than bill by the hour for services, we favor alternative fee arrangements (AFAs). We discourage our clients from paying for our services by the hour because we believe that the traditional model of hourly billing is broken. Hourly billing creates the wrong incentive for attorneys to work longer, not smarter.”
